Thank you for an honest article that was a quite a different way of looking at current interpretations of what is called either “Christianity” or sadly and ironically, evangelicalism. I have not been as much stunned into contemplation and re-thinking by the things you have been, but rather by the opposite. The idea that people who want to claim a special relationship with God / Jesus feel that because they “believe” a certain way, means that they do not have to “live” a different way. And this means that they convince themselves in their pride, that they don’t have to do anything differently than any one else when it comes to the fundamentals of being human — such as care for the planet, love of others, and how we use our money, time and resources. And yes, Trump is the revelation of the ugly underbelly of Americanized “Christianity”. All of these particular abuses of the ideas found within the Bible and the utter self-serving hypocrisy of those who act and vote with what I can only call stupidity or evil or both, has both saddened and angered me. But as you write, being sad and angry about wrongs, can lead one to more light, more love for self and others, and a different view of what perhaps we may seek when we think of the idea of seeking a “God”. I am so sorry for the abuses you suffered at the hands of those people. I hope you will continue to find healing, and the strength to fight for a better world for your child and all of our children.
